About Ximena Quiroz
Tattoo Artist & Shop Owner
Ximena Quiroz thought tattoos were pretty since she was old enough to know that Cracker Jack boxes had them as the toy surprise inside. After growing her personal tattoo and record collections, the winds brought her to Portland, OR. She apprenticed under Rio DeGenarro in 2006. In 2008, Ximena opened Skeleton Key Tattoo thanks to a kick in the butt from friends and a credit card.
Since apprenticing under Rio, Ximena has learned about scar camouflage and other cosmetic procedures from Mary Jane Haake. She is also certified by the Red Cross for blood borne pathogens training. Currently, she lives in her basement Tiki Bar in Portland, where tiki drinks are lovingly crafted and sipped while growing her record collection and organizing her army of cats.

Taking care of yourself before your appointment makes for a better tattoo experience. A few things that help:
Come rested and well-slept
Come sober — no alcohol or substances before your appointment
Eat a full meal beforehand
Shower and moisturize the area being tattooed
Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing
Bring headphones or a book if you'd like a distraction during your session
-
Yes, with one exception: areas below the wrist or ankle and above the collar bone are tricky to heal and are not guaranteed. Touch-ups are included in the price of your tattoo unless the area falls outside the guarantee zone.
-
If the scar is at least two years old, it's possible — though every scar is different. Come in and we'll take a look at what can be done.
-
You must be 18 to be tattooed, no exceptions. We accept a valid state-issued photo ID, a valid passport, or a birth certificate combined with a social security card.
-
Leave the bandage on for 4–12 hours. When removing it, wash your hands first, then gently clean the tattoo with mild soap and your fingertips — no washcloths or sponges. Pat dry with a clean paper towel and apply a small amount of water-based, fragrance-free lotion such as Lubriderm, H2Ocean, or Tattoo Tonic. Wash and moisturize 2–3 times a day, but don't overdo it.
What to avoid during healing:
No rebandaging, swimming, hot tubs, or saunas
No direct sunlight or UV exposure
No Neosporin, Bacitracin, or fragranced lotions
No picking, scratching, or letting others touch the tattoo
